( Specialize in Training for Upland Game and Waterfowl Hunting )
Basic Field Training for Retrievers
On average, this program takes 8 weeks to complete

Please Note: If your dog has little to no obedience, if your dog likes to play while retrieving, if your dog only retrieves when its in the mood, if your dog likes to chew on birds or refuses to retrieve birds, your dog will then need to go through the trained retrieve to fix those issues before starting this program. In order for a dog to excell in this program a dog must have solid obedience and a reliable retrieve with a proper delivery to hand.

The following skills will be taught in this program ( Training for both waterfowl and upland game hunting )
* Introduction to sit to whistle and casting
* Introduction to retrieving from a field blind
* Introduction to retrieving through decoys on land and in water.
* Introduction to hunting in medium to heavy cover, learn to hunt close
* Birds will be used in this program ( Pheasants and Ducks )
* Remote control throwers ( Zinger Wingers ) will be used to help simulate real hunting situations.

Trained Retrieve For Retrievers, Spaniels and pointers
On average, this program takes 8 weeks to complete

Please note: There is no field training in this program, the trained retrieve is about having more control of your dog and your dog's retrieve, this training converts the playful natural retrieve to an obedient controlled retrieve with the proper delivery to hand.

Many people fail to understand why a dog that already retrieves naturally should be trained to retrieve. The truth is that the forced retrieve is more about control than it is about retrieving, a dog that completes a forced retrieve program is more reliable and obedient than dogs who control how and when birds are retrieved. A dog that is properly force trained will retrieve birds you want retrieved, in the order you want them retrieved, return to heel and properly deliver to hand, the retrieve is completed on your terms not the dog's terms.

I honestly believe this training is the foundation to all gun dog training and all dogs should go through this training before starting the field work. This training is the most important and the most difficult training a dog and trainer will ever go through and is a must if you want a reliable retrieve and delivery to hand.

The following skills will be taught in this program:
* Obedience, your dog will be trained to the following commands ( come, heel and sit/stay )
* Force Fetch, your dog will be trained to the following commands ( fetch, hold, give and back )
* Introduction to shotgun ( 12 gauge )

* Birds will be used in this program to ensure a proper retrieve and delivery to hand ( Pheasants and Ducks )

Once your dog has successfully completed this program your dog will be obedient on and off the field, your dog will have a strong desire to retrieve, your dog will understand how to properly hold/carry and deliver to hand, your dog will completely understand what his or her job is and will be ready to start field training.
Whether it's Gun Dog Training or just Obedience Training, Stevenson Gun Dog and Obedience highly recommends and uses Dogtra.
When it comes to Gun Dog Training, Stevenson Gun Dog and Obedience highly recommends and uses Zinger Winger remote throwers.
When it comes to birds, Stevenson Gun Dog and Obedience highly recommends Oakwood Game Farm.
